Adventure (Sloop : 1773-1776) logbook, 1774-1776.

The logbook of the sloop (and blockade runner) Adventure details four shipping voyages from Boston, Salem, and Beverly, Mass., to Dominica and Guadeloupe in the West Indies, May 1774-Jan. 1776. The master and logbook keeper was Francis Boardman. The logbook includes notes on animals, diseases (specifically smallpox), equipment and supplies (provisions) on board the ship, shipboard occupations, recreation on board, smuggling, and comments on the politics and government of the United States at the time. The logbook includes an account of the Adventure's capture at sea by a British privateering vessel and Boardman's return to Salem.
